About Zoe

Zoe is a 7 yr old purebred (we are told) Canadian Mare, standing about 14.3hh. In late September, one of our supporters saw her sale ad in the Renfrew Pontiac Livestock Auction (Cobden, Ontario) catalogue. The auction was scheduled for Saturday October 5, 2019 so we sprang into action. Perry arranged for a fundraiser, foster home, and transportation and agreed to attend on our behalf.

We were lucky to get the mare, quickly getting her to Monique at Avant Garde Canadian Horses. She didn’t come with a name, which was quite sad but, being a 7 yr old we knew she was a Z so she was named Zoe. A name of Greek origin, meaning "Life”; it seemed fitting as she started her next chapter.

Zoe settled into the farm’s routine nicely. She was a bit underweight but in good health otherwise, with nice feet. It was clear she had been cared for properly. Her sale ad said “well broke to wagon” which hasn’t quite been our experience. She ground drives and is good to handle, but not broke to ride and doesn’t know how to lunge. It is important we go slowly. Zoe likely has a story to tell . . . one we will never know.

What we do know is that Zoe is quite lovely, in looks and in personality; she is sweet and loving. She has that great Canadian mind – curious, always thinking, and eager to learn. She has been good with other horses. We will do DNA testing to see if we can identify parentage; if we can, registration may still be tough but we will pursue that as far as we can

If Zoe can not be registered, she will come with a no-breeding clause.

Zoe was fostered by Avant Garde Canadians, near Petawawa, ON and thrived under Monique's watchful eye. We received many inquiries about her and two strong adoption applications. It was really hard to decide which home might be best but, ultimately, Lise's application was approved and plans were made to move Zoe to her new home, in New Brunswick. We wish Zoe and Lise all the best!
