About Jack

Not much is known about Jack. In August 2020, we were contacted by a member of our Rescue community who was concerned that Jack's low sale price might attract less desirable types, perhaps even putting him at risk of shipping to slaughter. As such, we made arrangements to purchase him, then brought him into foster care.

Jack is reported to be a 23 year old gelding (but we soon learned he was likely much older, 25 or 26+) standing approximately 14.1hh. He is super sweet and easy to catch and handle. Jack is broke to ride but he deseperately needs a buddy. He will not go on his own in the ring or trail and never strays too far from the horse he’s bonded to. He is completely sound and does his best to keep up with the herd, but being the smallest he tends to be outrun a wee bit. Good heart, though as he sure does try! He is great stalled, as long as his buddy is in the barn too.

Jack would do best in a home that is just looking to go for an occasional walk but mostly wants someone to groom and snuggle, He really just needs a place to retire where he will be loved and well cared for. His foster mum has worked her magic with him, though he still is struggling to put weight on. He has been wormed and teeth will be done, ASAP.

Jack is an absolutely lovely, older gentleman looking for his forever home. A quiet farm with a couple of other older horses is perfect. Interested?

Update - it is with heavy hearts that we laid Jack to rest, November 2020. Through October it became clear Jack was nearing his time then, one weekend in mid November, he let us know he was ready when he stopped eating and drinking. The vet was clear, he was in kidney failure and we'd done all we could. His foster mum was absolutely heartbroken and we all mourned with her. Jack's antics brought us joy and, for that, we are grateful for the short time we had with him.
