About Pirate

In January 2020, with heavy hearts, Pirate’s family reached out, asking if we could help them find a Pirate a new home. We, of course, said absolutely! Our work is not just about horses at risk but helping families find their horses new homes.

Pirate is a 16.2hh, 15 yr old Canadian gelding, located on Vancouver Island, BC. He is very strong, sweet, personable, and easy keeper! He is easy to catch, and he's always happy to see you. Though he does need an assertive and confident rider/handler; he is not a beginner’s horse. Barefoot and up-to-date on vaccines, farrier, and dental. You can see this lovely boy has been well-cared for and loved!

As he is showing signs of arthritis (managed with Previcox), but 100 sound for light riding, so available to trail or home ONLY. His jumping days are over. Pirate is good with all obstacles (e.g., water/bushes/logs), good with traffic (e.g., vehicles/dirtbikes/quads), and good with wildlife (e.g., birds, deer, bears). He can pony others or be ponied. No buck/bolt/rear. Doesn’t he sound absolutely amazing!

Pirate’s family is looking to find a forever home for this beautiful boy as they do not have as much time to spend with him as they would like or that he needs and deserves. He is fantastic and they will be very sad to see him go, but feel this is what is best for Pirate.

The Rescue was not involved in any decisions regarding Pirate’s new home. Instead, our role was to connect those that were interested in him to his owners who would make all decisions. The great news is that our involvement generated a ton of calls and the owners quickly found Pirate a new home.
