York – Adopted!

In November 2023, we were notified of a Kijiji add that listed a Canadian who was likely heading to auction where he might be at risk of going for meat. These situations can be unpredictable so we reached out. 

Turns out York is a young (12 years), 15hh purebred Canadian gelding with papers. He was at a boarding barn and, after several months of non-payment, his owners basically abandoned him, leaving the barn owner to figure out what to do next.  The new owner doesn't really have room for another horse, nor any real interest in, or passion for, the breed. Reported York was lovely, with a sweet, "in your pocket" disposition but he did have some lameness issues, perhaps arthritis.  

He is trained to ride and drive, though would need refresher in both. Also the lameness issue needs to be sorted. York has the potential to make someone a lovely casual riding horse.

Almost immediately after posting about York we got an amazing adoption application from Amber and her family. Given his soundness issues, offering York a semi-retirement home where there is no riding/driving expectations was something we couldn't pass up. Plus York will have other animals around and many, many acres to roam. Good luck Amber and York!
